I loved the characters of Kal and Elena, especially how cold and calculating Kal was. But that’s honestly the only thing I didn’t absolutely love about this book, and it’s really probably a personal taste thing more than anything. I was just hoping this wonderfully original story wouldn’t fall into the typical tropes like it did at the end. I didn’t hate the ending, and I wouldn’t even say that this book was predictable, but it did leave me feeling disappointed. What started out as something different turned into the same typical romance. The ending however fell a little flat for me.

I assume that those will get tied up in future books, and maybe I missed them because I haven’t read other books yet.Īs I mentioned, while the start of this book was terrific, in fact, most of the book was simply amazing. There seemed to be a lot of loose ends in this book, not specifically with Kal and Elena, but characters introduced and the plotlines started. I would have liked maybe a little more insight into the relationship between Kal and Elena., especially given Kal’s past with Elena’s family. They clearly had feelings for one another before all this, though both of them were fighting it.

What I did like was that these two had a past. This is a dark mafia romance with the male lead kidnapping and forcing the female lead into marriage. I just wish the ending had been as original as the rest of the book. I absolutely love the way Promises and Pomegranates started out, and it was a great story.
